‘You’re my best friend!’

Just then, Ms Walton arrives. ‘Oh, Jack!’ she says. ‘Your poor knee!’

Jack looks down at his knee. It is scraped and bleeding. He feels sick.

‘I’ll take you to Sick Bay,’ says Ms Walton. ‘We will call your parents to come and get you.’

Jack limps to Sick Bay with Ms Walton.

Billie walks on his other side. She holds his hand.

‘Which one did you choose, Jack?’ Benny calls. ‘Movies or zoo?’

‘I don’t think Jack will be going anywhere tomorrow,’ Ms Walton calls back.

Jack feels his bottom lip wobble. He thinks about missing out on the school trip and tears roll down his cheeks.
